This Is Where I Stand On Taxation

How has our society evolved into a mentality that theft is alright, as long as it is perpetrated by the federal government, and given to the "less fortunate"?  How have we come to a belief that we are entitled to the fruits of another's labor?  How have we allowed our government to structure our tax system so that more than half of the population pays no federal income taxes at all, and 40% of the population actually make money every year from the federal government by way of the income tax?  How have we gotten here?  Simple.  We sat idly by while our government enacted this progressive income tax structure and talked of its fairness, greatness, and equitability, mainly by convincing you that it only applied to the "rich".  Well first off, it is illogical and immoral to penalize the producers for their success, but there is a bigger problem.  Margaret Thatcher said, "the problem with socialism is you eventually run out of other people's money".  Well along the same lines; when you tax the rich to pay for the non-producers, the population of non-producers grows, the population of the "rich" shrinks, and eventually...you're the rich!  So guess what America - if you work and make a decent wage, you are now the rich!  How does it feel, having so much of what you earn taken, so those who choose not to work can have their cell phones, big screen TVs, high-speed Internet, food, and shelter at your expense? 

The fact is, this ridiculous trend cannot continue for long!  We are about to reach the tipping point in our nation.  Our taxes are not only too high, but way too unfair.  Not everyone who benefits from the greatness of this nation pays for its services.  This must stop. 

This is one of many reasons why I support the Fair Tax (a national sales tax that includes everyone) and a repeal of the 16th Amendment (the income tax).  The advantages of the Fair Tax are many and broad.  Most obvious is that nothing is withheld.  Whatever you make, you take home; it's that simple. Closely following is the fact that if you purchase something, you contribute to the system.  All of a sudden people start to care when the government wants to build a bridge to nowhere, when their taxes would increase by 3%.  As it is now, people illegally in our country pay nothing in federal taxes.  Under this system, every time they make a purchase they contribute.  Under the Fair Tax, there is no need for an intrusive IRS.  And since most states already have a sales tax, the states themselves will be responsible for collection of the taxes and payment to the federal government.  Best of all, there is one tax only, so gone are the payroll taxes, inheritance tax, capital gains tax, income tax, social security tax, Medicare tax, etc.  THERE IS ONLY ONE TAX, and you pay it every time you make a purchase.

While I would support a flat tax, there are reasons I do not prefer it.  Most importantly, we would still require the IRS.  With the IRS comes billions of dollars in overhead.  On top of that, I don't feel the federal government needs to know how much money I make.  Probably the most important, though, is the reality that the income tax could once again be manipulated in the future to a progressive state, and we'll be back in the same old boat.  That's why, in my opinion, the Fair Tax is the ONLY option for freedom!
